Dreams

I have another poem that I would like to share in celebration of Black History month. This poem was written by Langston Hughes and is entitled Dreams. Paige will be reciting this poem on Saturday evening during our Black History Program at church.

Dreams

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

So I encourage you to dream. Never stop dreaming and don't ever let your dreams die.

Black History Month

In honor of black history month, I am sharing a poem written by one of my favorite authors, Dr. Maya Angelou.

Still I Rise

You may write me down in history

With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Maximizing My Mornings

For the past several weeks I have taken part in the Hello Mornings challenge. You can check it out here. Below is a peek at my bible and notebook. I must admit that I did pretty well for the first couple of weeks. I got up every morning by 5:30 am and came down and had some one on one time with God. It has been very good for me. It has helped me to get up before the girls began their day and helped me to learn more about God and myself and areas in which I need to step up my game and where I am doing okay. However, the last couple of weeks have been more difficult. I have found it harder to get up @5:30 but was still able to rise before 6 at least until last week. I had some sinus trouble and was feeling pretty bad and decided it was best to nurse that with some extra rest. So now I'm doing better, but the problem is that I still haven't gotten up at 5:30 which really isn't early enough, because my earliest riser gets up about 5 minutes after me. Today, I got up prior to 6 but still after 5:30 and to Ava crawling across my head so there wasn't any one on one time first thing this morning.  I was able to get it in after dropping the girls off at school. It was a good session, I just want it to be earlier.

I still have yet to incorporate exercising consistently and planning. I began exercising last week by walking daily but then I got sick and haven't walked since. Planning has simply hit a brick wall as I seem to not have any time to get it done as there is so much other stuff that needs my attention around the house. I have not taken any photos in weeks with the exception of what is posted above that I took today. So hopefully I'll get it together soon.

I'm going to stick with the challenge and see what happens. Hopefully it will get easier and I'll be more productive and a better servant of our Lord, Jesus Christ in the end.
